FORMER RENNSSELAER RAM ON PLUE NAMED TO “OUTLAND TROPHY” WATCH LIST
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue senior Ryan Kerrigan and junior Ken Plue have been named to two separatepreseason watch lists, the Football Writers of America Association (FWAA) announced.
Defensive end Kerrigan is among 74 players nationally listed to the initial watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy. He enters his final season as a Boilermaker tied for fifth in sacks (21.0) and 14th in tackles for loss (31.0) in school history. The Muncie, Ind., native led the nation with seven fumbles forced and the Big Ten Conference with 13 sacks in 2009. He has appeared in 36 games at Purdue, including 23 consecutive starts over the past two years.
Created in 1993 by the FWAA, the Bronko Nagurski Trophy is awarded to the best defensive player in college football and is presented by the Charlotte Touchdown Club. The award was established to compliment the Heisman Trophy Award which never been presented to a defensive player. The annual Bronko Nagurski Trophy Banquet will be on Dec. 6 at the Westin Hotel in Charlotte, N.C.
Junior guard Ken Plue is one of 63 players nationally on the initial watch list for the Outland Trophy.Offensive guard Plue is one of 63 players nationally to be recognized as a player to watch for the 2010 Outland Trophy.
Plue, a native of Rensselaer, N.Y., anchored a line that helped Purdue finish third in the Big Ten Conference in passing offense in 2009. With 18 career starts, he will head into fall camp in August as Purdue's most experienced lineman on the offensive side of the ball.
The Outland Trophy, presented annually since 1946, is the third oldest award in major college football. The Outland Trophy is named after the late John Outland, an All-America lineman at Penn and Kansas at the turn of the century. The 2010 winner will be announced on The Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show on Dec. 9.

A new American play, “Lombardi”, will debut in New York City this fall. Based on the book “When Pride Still Mattered”, written by Pulitzer winning author David Maraniss, Lombardi brings to life stories of the famous NFL football coach, Vince Lombardi, exploring the philosophy and the inner-workings of what made him a true legend. The six-character play will star Dan Lauria (Wonder Years) as Vince Lombardi, accompanied by Judith Light (Who’s the Boss, Ugly Betty) as Marie Lombardi.
